Stacey & Ian’s Whitby Wedding: A Storybook Yorkshire Elopement by the Sea

Stacey & Ian Elopement Wedding Whitby

As a Whitby wedding photographer, I’ve had the pleasure of capturing countless love stories in this historic seaside town. However, Stacey and Ian’s elopement stood out as truly special. From their heartfelt plans to the unexpected moments, their day perfectly reflected the magic that makes Whitby an ideal location for weddings.

Why Whitby is Perfect for Elopements and Intimate Weddings

As a Whitby wedding photographer, I’ve had the pleasure of capturing countless love stories in this historic seaside town. However, Stacey and Ian’s elopement stood out as truly special. From their heartfelt plans to the unexpected moments, their day perfectly reflected the magic that makes Whitby an ideal location for weddings.

Bridal Prep in a Hidden Gem

Stacey prepared in a cosy apartment nestled within the old Quaker building next to Pannett Park. I’ve walked past this beautiful stone building countless times, always curious about its interior. Now, I know! The apartment was bathed in natural light thanks to its large roller-shutter windows, and the vintage mirrors made it perfect for bridal prep photos.

A Last-Minute Taxi Save

Stacey and Ian’s elopement was a whirlwind of excitement, but they managed to save the day with a last-minute taxi. Their unexpected detour turned into a delightful surprise, adding an extra layer of magic to their special day.

With just ten minutes to spare before the ceremony, Stacey’s original taxi cancelled. However, thanks to the kindness of a local hero of a driver, she made it to Farndale House in time. These moments remind me how crucial it is to stay calm and adaptable on a wedding day. The energy was electric, and Stacey handled everything with grace.

Ceremony at Farndale House: A Quirky Surprise

Whitby’s registry office, Farndale House, might surprise you – it’s actually a bungalow! For a town steeped in gothic history and famous for Dracula and Captain Cook, it’s not quite what you’d expect. But the staff are brilliant, and the ceremony was intimate and filled with love.

Family Formals in the Park

After the ceremony, we strolled to the nearby gardens on the Royal Crescent. This flower-filled park is one of my go-to spots for family formals and newlywed portraits. The soft light and colourful blooms created a dreamy backdrop.

Couple Shoot: From Whale Bones to the Keyhole

Whitby boasts no shortage of iconic photo locations. The Whale Bones and the Keyhole are two of my favourites. We began at the Whale Bones, but it was Folk Week, with dancers from across the country performing right in front of them! So, we swiftly pivoted and headed straight to the Keyhole, where the couple shared a quiet moment away from the crowds.

Capturing a Viral Moment

While photographing Stacey and Ian at the Keyhole, something unexpected happened. Luckily, I was filming with my Ray-Ban Meta glasses, which turned that spontaneous moment into a viral reel. It perfectly captured the joy and magic of their Whitby elopement.

After the shoot, Stacey and Ian met up with their guests at The Granby, one of Whitby’s classic pubs. Their entrance was unforgettable. The landlady rang the bar bell and announced the newlyweds to a round of applause. It was the kind of moment that makes you grin behind the camera.

Thinking of tying the knot in Whitby? Whether you’re planning a full-day wedding or a quiet elopement, I’d love to help you capture it. As a Whitby wedding photographer, I know the town’s hidden gems and how to make your day feel truly yours.
